Employee earns Bachelor's Degree: Tuition Reimbursement Key

Russell Waggener
May 29, 2013 -

Using Security Fire Protection's tuition reimbursement benefit, Russell Waggener graduated with honors from the University of Memphis in December 2011. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology.

Waggener began his career as a design trainee with Security Fire in May 2006. He was enrolled in an associate's degree program for Mechanical Engineering Technology at Southwest Tennessee Community College. He graduated from Southwest with honors in 2007 and decided to attend the University of Memphis to earn his bachelor's.

"I am sincerely grateful to be employed at a company that provides tuition reimbursement that helps enable me to further my education," Waggener said.

This would be no easy task as Waggener was a full-time employee with a wife and young son. But with external support and a strong desire to achieve, Waggener was ready for the challenge.

"I would like to personally thank Security Fire for their commendations, flexibility and encouragement," he said.

The tuition reimbursement benefit, offered by Security Fire, is available to full-time employees and is governed by the APi Group employee handbook. The benefit encourages professional development by granting reimbursement of tuition and books for courses approved by an employee's direct supervisor. The approved courses offer value to both the individual and the company. The benefit is up to $5,000 per calendar year.

Today, Russell is no longer a design trainee. He is a Level II designer, NICET Level III Certified and a Tennessee Responsible Managing Employee (RME).

"Russell's accomplishments are an inspiration to others within the design department to further their education as well," said Design Manager Jeremy Cross.
